Paris Internationale 2024 will take place from Wednesday, October 16 to Sunday, October 20 with a preview day on Tuesday, October 15 in an exclusive new venue in the heart of Paris. Paris Internationale’s nomadism and rediscovery of Paris’s architectural heritage has become one of its hallmarks. Details about the location will be announced later this Spring.
Paris Internationale 2024 se tiendra du mercredi 15 au dimanche 20 octobre avec une journée de Preview le mardi 16 octobre dans un nouveau lieu exclusif au cœur de Paris. Le nomadisme de Paris Internationale et la redécouverte d’un patrimoine architectural parisien sont devenus l’une de ses caractéristiques. Les détails concernant le lieu seront annoncés au courant de l’été 2024.
Throughout the years, Paris Internationale established itself as a new model in the ecosystem of international contemporary art fairs. Forward thinking and collaborative, free spirited and audacious, Paris Internationale is a collegial initiative founded in 2015 by a group of galleries. Since its creation, the fair offers a rich selection of cutting-edge artistic projects presented by galleries from around the world.
Au fil des années, Paris Internationale s’est imposée comme un nouveau modèle dans l’écosystème des foires internationales d’art contemporain. Prospective et collaborative, libre d’esprit et audacieuse, Paris Internationale est une initiative collégiale fondée en 2015 par un groupe de galeries. Depuis sa création, la foire propose une importante sélection de projets artistiques pointus présentés par des galeries du monde entier.
Since 2015, Paris Internationale has been reinventing traditional contemporary art fairs through a selection of committed, forward-looking and multigenerational galleries challenged to take over new venues each year. Paris Internationale’s nomadic approach has become a signature, and since 2022 has been accompanied by a partnership with the daring Swiss architects Christ & Gantenbein, disrupting the traditional conception of fair spaces whilst rediscovering Paris’s architectural heritage.
By replacing boxes with walls, the architects have adopted a radical system that challenges the cubic, closed-in booth typical of traditional fairs. The design of Christ & Gantenbein’s exhibition spaces emphasises a relationship with urban space and the enhancement of the historic buildings involved, fostering a sense of exchange, openness and community.
In keeping with the identity of Paris Internationale, neon lights and simple walls remain the main elements used to delineate the spaces and showcase the works. Given the quality of the settings chosen, architectural intervention is reduced to the strict minimum. This strategy of economising on resources continues each year, with the reuse of many elements from previous editions (furniture, lighting, signage, etc.) and the use of existing infrastructures.
Depuis 2015, Paris Internationale à su réinventer les foires traditionnelles d’art contemporain à travers une sélection de galeries engagées, prospectives et multigénérationnelles misent au défit d’investir de nouveaux espaces chaque année. Devenu signature, le nomadisme de Paris Internationale se double depuis 2022 d’un partenariat avec l’audacieux cabinet d’architectes suisse Christ & Gantenbein, ajoutant la disruption de la conception traditionnelle des espaces de foires à la redécouverte du patrimoine architectural parisien.
En remplaçant les boîtes par des murs les architectes adoptent un système radical qui remet en question les stands cubiques et fermés sur eux-mêmes, typiques des foires traditionnelles. La conception des espaces d’exposition de Christ & Gantenbein met l’accent sur une relation avec l’espace urbain et la valorisation des bâtiments historiques investis, favorisant un sentiment d’échange, d’ouverture et de communauté.
Fidèles à l’identité de Paris Internationale, les néons et les murs simples demeurent les principaux éléments utilisés pour délimiter les espaces et mettre en valeur les œuvres. Face à la qualité des cadres choisis, l’intervention architecturale est réduite au plus strict minimum. Cette stratégie d’économie de moyens se poursuit chaque année par la réutilisation de nombreux éléments des éditions précédentes (mobilier, éclairage, signalétique, etc.) et la mise à profit des infrastructures existantes.
Launched in 2015, Paris Internationale’s public programs facilitate exchanges and conversations about art between members of the international art worlds. Accessible for free, events are held in informal and unconventional formats : talks, screenings, book launches, performances and daily derives - conversations through the exhibition held by curators, museum directors, artists, heads of foundations and collectors.
Lancés en 2015, les programmes publics de Paris Internationale facilitent les échanges et les conversations sur l’art entre les membres des mondes artistiques internationaux. Accessibles gratuitement, les événements se déroulent dans des formats informels et non conventionnels : talks, projections, lancements de livres, performances et daily dérives - un programme de conversations tenues par des conservateurs, directeurs de musées, artistes, responsables de fondations et collectionneurs.
On the occasion of this 9th edition, Paris Internationale was proud to host A Drawing for Morocco, a major fund-raising campaign and drawing sale launched by Mustapha Bouhayati, Samy Ghiyati, Nicolas Nahab and Mouna Mekouar.
Following the earthquake that tragically struck the valleys and the Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco, a strong movement of mutual aid and support was expressed to help the population. Following the humanitarian emergency, what became obvious was the state of desolation of the villages, an endangered architectural heritage and the necessity to help finance a timely reconstruction using vernacular architectural principles that integrate local know-hows and ancient earthquake-resistant systems.
To this end, more than 150 artists from all over the world have been invited to take part in producing one or more works to be exhibited and sold at Paris Internationale. All were produced on the same A5 format, using different techniques and signed on the back. Presented anonymously, each was offered for sale, without bidding and at a single price.
Thanks to the artists and donors, more than 240,000 Euros have been raised, and some donations are still coming in. All proceeds from the sale will be used to fund community initiatives led by Salima Naji, an anthropologist and architect who has been working in these regions for over twenty years.
Pour sa 9ème édition, Paris Internationale est fière d’avoir accueilli A Drawing for Morocco, une vente caritative dessins d’ampleur internationale organisée par Mustapha Bouhayati, Samy Ghiyati, Nicolas Nahab et Mouna Mekouar.
Suite au séisme qui a tragiquement frappé les vallées et les montagnes de l’Atlas, au Sud du Maroc, un fort mouvement d’entraide et de soutien s’est exprimé pour porter secours à la population. Après cette urgence humanitaire, le constat de la désolation des villages, d’un patrimoine architectural en péril et de la nécessité d’une reconstruction rapide et respectueuse des principes architecturaux vernaculaires intégrant les savoir-faire et les systèmes antisismiques traditionnels s’est imposé.
Pour ce faire, plus de cent cinquante artistes du monde entier ont été invités à se mobiliser en produisant une à plusieurs œuvres. Toutes ont été réalisées sur un même format A5, selon différentes techniques et signées au dos. Présentés de façon anonyme, tous les dessins ont été proposés à la vente, sans enchère, à un tarif unique.
Grace à la générosité des artistes et donateurs, plus de 240 000 euros ont été rassemblés tandis que d’autres dons parviennent encore. L’intégralité des recettes de cette vente alimentera plusieurs initiatives associatives pilotées par Salima Naji, anthropologue et architecte qui œuvre depuis plus de vingt ans dans ces régions.
Since its 8th edition, which took place in the former Nadar studios in October 2022, Paris Internationale has joined forces with Cnap (Centre National des Arts Plastiques) for an exhibition programme entitled Maintenant! Each year, 4 artists or collectives who have received fundings from Cnap are selected to exhibit their supported projects in the exhibition spaces.
As an operator of the French state’s cultural policy, the CNAP supports French and foreign artists as well as cultural actors on its territory. Despite their different functions and methods, Cnap and Paris Internationale have naturally joined forces to promote the French visual arts abroad, while at the same time making France a platform and a driving force for international artistic practices. As co-producers of the works and essential partners in the development of the careers of the artists they present, the galleries are an essential part of this ecosystem.
Artists featured: Eva Barto, Maxime Bichon, Vincent Ceraudo, Marcelline Delbecq, Suzanne Lafont, Béatrice Lussol, Malik Nejmi and the duo Grout/Mazéas.
Depuis sa 8ème édition qui s’est déroulée dans l’ancien atelier de Nadar en octobre 2022, Paris Internationale s’associe au Cnap (Centre National des Arts Plastiques) pour un programme d’exposition intitulé MAINTENANT!. Chaque année, 4 artistes ou collectifs ayant bénéficié du soutien à la création du Cnap sont sélectionnés pour exposer leurs projets soutenus dans les espaces de la foire.
En tant qu’opérateur de la politique culturelle de l’état, le Cnap soutien les artistes et les acteurs culturels français et étrangers sur son territoire. Malgré leurs différences de statuts et de méthodes, le Cnap et Paris Internationale s’associent naturellement autour de motivations communes : faire rayonner les arts visuels français à l’étranger tout en faisant du territoire français une plateforme et un moteur des pratiques artistiques internationales. En tant que co-productrices des oeuvres et accompagnantes essentiels au développement des carrières des artistes qu’elles présentent, les galeries sont un maillage essentiel de cet écosystème.
